Mirka and Georges Mora founded Tolarno in St Kilda after fleeing Poland in the 1940s. Through the 1970s and 80s it was the inner-Melbourne art scene's anchor — frequented by every serious Melbourne artist of the period. The current owners run the hotel as an art hotel proper, with each of the rooms built around a different work and reportedly including pieces by Sidney Nolan and Howard Arkley. Mirka's Studio is the room named after her. 42 Fitzroy Street.
