Shaw River Buffalo Cheese
Great Ocean Road
The Haldane family imported Australia's first commercial milking water buffalo herd from Italy and Bulgaria in 1995, ran it first at the heritage Purrumbete Homestead near Camperdown, then built this factory on the Shaw River at Yambuk in 1998. The original business closed in 2021. Melbourne couple Ignatious and Murali bought the factory and reopened in May 2025, sourcing buffalo milk from a producer in South Australia while production rebuilds. Buffalo mozzarella, ricotta, yoghurt, and the harder varieties the Haldanes originally pioneered. Fifteen minutes west of Port Fairy on the Princes Highway. The rebuild is genuinely in progress — check current availability before driving for specific products.
