The Doncaster
Canberra District, NSW
A seven-room guesthouse in the heart of Braidwood, which started life as one of the town's grand hotels at the turn of the century, then spent most of the twentieth century as a Good Samaritan convent and boarding school. Returned to private hands in the 1970s and now run by Gabriele Borscz, an interior designer who fills it with antiques collected across Southeast Asia and the Middle East. Rooms named for women — Hanna, Klara, Flora, Hilde, Elfriede.
