The building alone earns the visit: a timber house designed by John Avery in 1881 that served successively as Port Welshpool's grandest home, its dance hall, its church and its wine salon. The maritime collection fills that same space on weekends, run by volunteers under South Gippsland Council. Five dollars gets you in.
