John Parker planted his Abbey Vineyard in 1985 with Reynell Selection Cabernet cuttings — vines originally sourced from Bordeaux in the 1800s and lost to France after phylloxera. Four decades on, chief winemaker Andrew Hardy (great-great-grandson of viticulturist Thomas Hardy, who helped found Coonawarra as a wine region) tends those same vines on the terra rossa strip outside Penola. The cellar door also pours draught beer and specialty gins.
