Owen Rye completed Australia's first doctorate in ceramic arts in 1970 and spent decades at the forefront of woodfiring — organising the country's first woodfire conference in 1986, teaching at Monash University Gippsland, and publishing five books on the subject. Now working from Boolarra South, he has shifted to glazed stoneware, photography and sculpture. Work held in the Australian National Gallery and collections across four continents.
