Fort Queenscliff Museum

Queenscliff, VIC

Fort Queenscliff is one of Victoria's most important historic military sites, built from 1860 to defend the entrance to Port Phillip Bay during fears of seaborne attack following the gold rush era. The museum, which won Victoria's Museum of the Year in 1983, displays weapons, cannon, medals and thousands of photographs dating to the 1880s, accessible only through guided tours of the fortified walls, towers and gun emplacements.
