The Broome Historical Society's museum, at Town Beach Reserve, holding the records of a town with an outsized history. Its collections, archives and oral histories cover Broome's pearling era, when the lugger fleet sailed out to the grounds and divers came from Japan, Malaya and beyond, and the 1942 Japanese air raid that destroyed flying boats full of Java evacuees in Roebuck Bay. Aboriginal, mission and internment stories run through it, alongside a research service and history bookshop.
