Phillip Broderick planted the first vines in Basket Range in 1980, when the Adelaide Hills hillside was still apple and cherry country. His son Sholto — trained in viticulture and oenology, with European vintages behind him — now runs the winery organically. The 4.5-hectare site's three distinct aspects separate the Bordeaux varieties from the Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, with sandstone, ironstone and clay doing the rest.
