Rafal Kaczmarek came to clay in Krakow making hand-built figurines, and now runs Sticky Earth from a Melbourne studio, throwing everyday stoneware on the wheel: plates, bowls, cups and the ceramic keepcups he's best known for. He works to a wabi-sabi idea of minimal, perfect-but-imperfect forms, letting the texture of the stoneware show through the glaze rather than decorating over it. Each piece is fired twice, over six or seven days, and sold online in small batches.
