Bassist Michael Tortoni built this 226-seat room on a dead-end Brunswick laneway in 2017 as the successor to Bennetts Lane — the city club he ran from 1992 to 2015, once dubbed the world's best jazz club by Lonely Planet. He modelled the acoustics on Bennetts Lane's original room and keeps the bar off to one side, because the music comes first. Open nightly and ticketed, international names alongside the local scene, and the flagship of the Melbourne International Jazz Festival, which Tortoni directs.
