Since 1974, volunteers have kept the original Ghan line — begun in 1878 — running through Pichi Richi Pass. The preserved corridor features deep rock cuttings, stone wall embankments and iron bridges connecting Port Augusta to the Flinders Ranges. Restored locomotives and rolling stock run as working exhibits, not static displays. The kind of place that earns its heritage listing.
