Dutch-born, Canadian-raised Teunis Kwak planted his first vines here in 1977, having spent years before that quarrying sandstone from the property itself to build the winery by hand. Recycled timbers, Welsh slate (ships' ballast), and convict-mined Grampians stone—the same source as Parliament House—give the building its particular weight. The wines are estate-grown on rocky, low-yield slopes. Saturdays only, fire lit in winter.
