A grazing property bought in 1997 at the southern end of the Heathcote region, McIvor Estate grows Sangiovese, Nebbiolo and Marsanne in the granitic soils of the Great Dividing Range — the oldest plantings of those varieties in the region. The Italian mixed-farm model, olive grove included, is more than aesthetic: it shaped which grapes went in the ground.
