Helena Richardson-Collins works from 18 View Street, Bendigo, painting directly onto silk and felt to make wearable garments — coats among them — alongside canvas works layered with acrylic. The silk pieces are unforgiving: each brushstroke is permanent. Her paintings draw on the Australian landscape, built up in bold, wet-in-wet strokes. The coats have reportedly stopped strangers on St Kilda streets.
