Sue and Dave Carpenter planted vines at 860 metres above Bungendore in 1978, and the thin shale-over-clay soils have never let them forget it. Low-vigour, sparingly irrigated, biodynamic since 2003 — the estate Riesling, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Grüner Veltliner reflect the cold, tight-fisted site. Wild-yeast ferments only. Son Chris joined in 2002. The wines taste like the altitude.
