The oldest art society in the region, Cairns Art Society has run since 1931 out of a studio and gallery on Lake Street. Hyper-realistic paintings, ceramics drawing on Great Barrier Reef forms, contemporary sculpture — the member work spans a serious range. A second outpost operates at DFO Westcourt. Unpretentious, community-run, and genuinely useful to artists at any level.
